Terms of Service

Last updated: July 29, 2026

Plain-language summary

Piecework is an iPad tool for designing foundation paper piecing patterns. You own the patterns you create, you are responsible for checking your work and print scale before cutting or sewing, and your use of the App is also subject to Apple's applicable App Store terms.

Effective date: July 29, 2026

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of Piecework ("Piecework" or "the App"). By downloading, accessing, or using the App, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the App.

1. What Piecework Does

Piecework is an iPad-first design tool for foundation paper piecing ("FPP"). It lets you draw straight seam lines, organize pieces into sewable sections, review sew order, add flat fabric colors and a reference photo, and generate mirrored, true-size PDF foundations.

Piecework is a design and preparation tool. It does not manufacture quilts, provide fabric, operate a printing service, or guarantee the result of a physical sewing project.

2. App Store License and These Terms

The App is licensed, not sold. Your license is subject to the usage rules and license terms that apply to your App Store purchase. Unless a custom end-user license agreement is provided in App Store Connect, the Apple Standard EULA applies.

These Terms supplement the Apple Standard EULA and applicable App Store terms. If there is a conflict, the Apple terms or any mandatory law that applies to you will control to the extent of that conflict.

3. Purchase and Payment

Piecework is offered as a one-time App Store purchase, not a recurring subscription for the core App. Apple processes the purchase, taxes, billing, Family Sharing eligibility, and any refund request under Apple's applicable terms and policies. We do not receive your full payment-card details.

If optional add-on content or a separate product is offered in the future, its price and terms will be shown before you choose to purchase it.

4. Your Patterns and Reference Materials

You retain your rights in the original patterns and other content you create in Piecework. The App processes your content locally only as needed to provide its features.

You are responsible for ensuring that you have the right to use any photo, design, artwork, fabric image, name, or other material you bring into the App. You must not use Piecework to copy, distribute, or sell material in a way that infringes another person's intellectual property, privacy, publicity, or other rights.

Piecework does not determine whether your design is original, whether third-party rights apply, or whether you may commercially use a pattern based on reference material.

5. Local Storage, Backups, and Device Security

Piecework stores patterns and selected reference photos locally in the App's container on your device. You are responsible for protecting your device, maintaining any backups you need, and keeping exported copies of important work.

Your operating system or backup settings may copy local App data outside Piecework. Deleting the App or losing access to your device may result in loss of locally stored work, subject to your system backup settings. We cannot recover patterns that were never exported or backed up.

6. Exports and Sharing

When you export, save, print, message, email, upload, or share a PDF, you control the destination. Once a file leaves Piecework, we cannot control, recall, update, or delete that copy. You are responsible for checking the file and choosing an appropriate recipient or storage provider.

7. Pattern Validation and Print Accuracy

Piecework provides geometry checks, section suggestions, sew-order information, seam allowances, mirrored output, and a print calibration square to help you prepare FPP foundations. These tools reduce errors but do not replace your own review.

  1. Review every section, piece label, seam, seam allowance, and sew order before using the pattern.
  2. Print at 100% or Actual Size. Do not use Fit, Shrink, or other automatic scaling.
  3. Measure the printed 1-inch (2.54 cm) calibration square with an accurate ruler before cutting fabric or sewing.
  4. Make a test block when material cost, scale, or construction risk is significant.

Printer hardware, printer drivers, paper handling, operating-system settings, fabric movement, cutting, seam width, and sewing technique are outside Piecework's control. You are responsible for the materials you cut and the physical project you make.

8. Acceptable Use

You agree to use Piecework only for lawful purposes. You must not:

  • Use the App or exported files to infringe intellectual property, privacy, publicity, or other rights
  • Attempt to disrupt, damage, bypass, or misuse the App or App Store licensing systems
  • Reverse engineer or redistribute the App except where applicable law or an open-source license expressly permits it
  • Use the App in a fraudulent, deceptive, harmful, or illegal manner

9. Availability, Compatibility, and Changes

We may fix bugs, add or remove features, change system requirements, or discontinue distribution of the App. Updates may require a supported version of iPadOS or compatible hardware. We do not guarantee that every feature will remain available forever or work with every printer, file destination, accessory, or future operating-system version.

Where reasonably practical, we will avoid changes that prevent access to locally saved patterns without notice or a migration path, but you should keep exports or backups of important work.

10. Disclaimer of Warranties

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Piecework is provided "as is" and "as available," with all faults and without warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, non-infringement, or uninterrupted and error-free operation.

We do not warrant that every design will be sewable in practice, that every validation result will identify every possible construction issue, that every PDF will print at the intended physical size on every setup, or that use of the App will prevent material loss.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain warranty exclusions. Nothing in these Terms excludes warranties or consumer rights that cannot lawfully be excluded.

11. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Piecework and its developer will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for loss of data, patterns, reference materials, fabric, supplies, profits, or opportunities arising from your use of or inability to use the App.

Nothing in these Terms limits liability where doing so is prohibited by law.

12. Termination

You may stop using Piecework at any time and may delete the App from your device. Your rights under these Terms may terminate if you materially violate them or the applicable App Store license. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination, including ownership, disclaimers, and limitations of liability, will survive.

13. Privacy and External Services

Your use of Piecework is also subject to the Piecework Privacy Policy. Apple services, system photo picker, printers, and destinations selected through the share sheet are external services governed by their own terms and privacy practices.

14. Changes and Contact

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will update the effective date and make revised Terms available through the App or App Store listing. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised Terms to the extent permitted by law.

For questions about these Terms, use the support contact provided in Piecework or in its App Store listing.
